Shopify inventory sync app

Shopify
Node.js

Problem

Our client developed a new B2C website for an international distributor, during setup they encountered challenges in syncing inventory between the stores. The client uses size variants (S, M, L) for each product, while the distributor lists each size as a unique product. Off-the-shelf solutions failed to effectively synchronise their inventories due to these structural differences, as syncing apps typically relies on parent product IDs to match between stores.

Solution

Deadwood Digital developed a custom web app to bridge the inventory synchronisation gap. Our app uses SKUs as the primary matching criteria, ensuring that products with different structures can be accurately synced.

On a schedule, the app reads product inventory from the distributor, subtracting a small buffer, and then updating the client’s inventory to match. This robust, flexible solution ensures the new website’s inventory is always up to date, prevents overselling, eliminates the need for manual updates, and reduces the risk of errors.
